EPDM Elastomer
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (or EPDM) is a synthetic rubber which is utilized in a large number of applications, especially in the automobile and construction industry. It is extremely durable and flexible. It features a single bond molecular structure, chemically saturated backbone that makes it greatly resistant to outdoor conditions and this is due to the reason that UV and O₃ aren’t able to split its single bonded molecular structure in the same way as rubbers with double bonded structures. EPDM has a usual harness range of 50-90 Shore A and is suited well for temperatures between -80° F to 300° F.

Advantages
EPDM is a long-lasting synthetic rubber, and under the right usage conditions, it can last up to decades. Its advantages include:
- High tensile strength
- Excellent outdoor weatherproofing (most weatherproof rubber)
- Resistance to abrasion, UV and ozone
- Excellent heat ageing and weather resistance
- Good low-temperature flexibility
- Resistance to steam, acids, alkalis, ketones, Skydrol, phosphate, oxygen, and brake fluid
Disadvantages
Some of the limitations of EPDM Elastomer includes:
- Poor resistance to petroleum oils and solvents and di-ester base lubricants
- Not resistant to flame
- Not suitable for food applications
- Fair tear resistance
