Silicone Sponge
Gum-based polydimethylsiloxane (PMDS) is used to make a majority of the commercially available silicone sponge products. The silicone elastomer expands at the time of heat curing; this expansion process leads to the closed-cell sponge structure. The biggest difference between a “foam” and a “sponge” is that foam is an open-cell while a sponge is a closed-cell.
Silicone Sponge is available in soft, medium, hard, and X- Hard densities. Medium-density is the most common one. Various colour options are available. Generally, it features a fine fabric finish on both sides of its surface and is available in o-ring cord, square cord, hollow, custom shape, and gasket sheets up to 2″ thick.
